Online Markdown Editor: Write Markdown with a live preview, format with one click and export a .md file or a clean HTML page. Your text auto-saves on this device and works offline. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) write in the editor or open a .md file; 2) use the toolbar or shortcuts and watch the live preview; 3) export as .md or .html, or copy the HTML. Markdown is a simple way to format text with symbols: # for headings, ** for bold, – for lists. The editor converts your text to HTML as you type, using GitHub Flavored Markdown, so tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks all work.
How the Markdown editor works
Markdown is a simple way to format text with symbols: # for headings, ** for bold, - for lists. The editor converts your text to HTML as you type, using GitHub Flavored Markdown, so tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks all work.
Toolbar and shortcuts
Select text and use the toolbar for bold, italic, strikethrough, headings, links, images, inline code, code blocks, quotes, lists, task lists, tables and dividers. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+K work as shortcuts (Cmd on Mac). Switch between Write, Split and Preview to focus on one side, which is handy on phones.
Auto-save
Your text is saved in this browser’s local storage a moment after you stop typing, so it is still there when you return. It never leaves your device. Clear removes the saved copy too.
Export
- Export .md downloads the Markdown source.
- Export .html creates a complete, styled web page named after your first heading.
- Copy HTML copies clean HTML for WordPress, email builders or a CMS.
Safe preview
All HTML output is cleaned with a sanitizer, so scripts and unsafe attributes pasted into the text are removed from the preview and exports.
Limitations
Auto-save is per browser and device, so it does not sync, and private browsing may not keep it. Math formulas, diagrams and footnotes are not rendered. Images are linked, not uploaded.
Markdown Editor FAQs
Where is my Markdown saved?
It is saved in your browser’s local storage on this device, a moment after you stop typing. Nothing is uploaded, so it does not sync to other devices and clearing site data removes it. Export a .md file to keep a permanent copy or move it to another computer.
Does this editor support GitHub Flavored Markdown?
Yes. Tables, task lists with checkboxes, strikethrough with double tildes, fenced code blocks and automatic links all work as on GitHub. Footnotes, math formulas and diagram blocks are not rendered, but they stay in your text unchanged when you export the .md file.
How do I convert Markdown to HTML?
Write or paste your Markdown, then click Copy HTML to get the HTML for the body, or Export .html to download a complete web page with simple styling. The HTML is sanitized, so it is safe to paste into WordPress, an email builder or another content system.
Can I use the Markdown editor offline?
Yes. The editor, preview and exports run entirely in your browser with bundled code, so once the page is loaded, or when you use the Hayyat Networks app, it keeps working without an internet connection. Your work continues to auto-save on the device.
