Free Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert Unix epoch time to a readable date and back. See the result in UTC, your local time and any time zone, with ISO 8601 and RFC 2822 formats ready to copy.
Unix Timestamp Converter: Convert Unix epoch time to a readable date and back. See the result in UTC, your local time and any time zone, with ISO 8601 and RFC 2822 formats ready to copy. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) paste a timestamp or date, or use the live current time; 2) choose the time zone to display; 3) copy the format you need, or use the Date to timestamp tab. A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. Many systems use milliseconds instead, and some logs use microseconds or nanoseconds.
How the timestamp converter works
A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. Many systems use milliseconds instead, and some logs use microseconds or nanoseconds. The converter detects the unit from the number of digits: up to 11 digits are seconds, 12 to 14 are milliseconds, 15 to 17 are microseconds and more are nanoseconds. You can also set the unit yourself.
Outputs
- Unix seconds and milliseconds.
- ISO 8601 in UTC and with the offset of your chosen zone.
- RFC 2822, the format used in email and HTTP headers.
- Readable dates in the chosen zone, your device zone and UTC.
- ISO week number, day of year and relative time.
- The same moment in major cities around the world.
Date to timestamp
Pick a date, a time and a time zone to get the matching timestamp. Daylight saving rules come from your browser’s built-in time zone database. If a clock time does not exist because clocks jump forward, the tool warns you and shows the nearest valid moment.
Live clock
The banner shows the current timestamp, updated every second. Pause it to copy a stable value.
Limitations
JavaScript dates have millisecond precision, so microsecond and nanosecond inputs are rounded. Date text without a zone, such as 2026-03-08 10:00, is read in your local time. Accuracy of the current time depends on your device clock.
Unix Timestamp Converter FAQs
What is a Unix timestamp?
It is the number of seconds that have passed since midnight UTC on 1 January 1970, called the Unix epoch. It is the same everywhere in the world, which makes it ideal for storing times in databases and APIs. Convert it to a local time zone only when you show it to people.
How do I know if a timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?
Count the digits. Current timestamps in seconds have 10 digits, while milliseconds have 13. JavaScript and Java usually use milliseconds, while PHP, Python and most databases use seconds. The converter detects the unit automatically and shows how it read your input.
What is the year 2038 problem?
Older systems store Unix time as a signed 32-bit number, which runs out on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC and wraps to 1901. Modern systems use 64-bit numbers that last for billions of years. Check old databases, embedded devices and file formats that may still use 32-bit time.
How do I convert a date in another time zone to a timestamp?
Open the Date to timestamp tab, pick the date and time, and choose the time zone where that clock time applies, such as Asia/Karachi or America/New_York. The tool applies the correct offset and daylight saving rules for that date and gives you the Unix timestamp.
