Free HTTP Headers Checker

See the raw HTTP response headers of any page, get a security header score and copy ready code for the headers you are missing.

Quick answer

HTTP Headers Checker: See the raw HTTP response headers of any page, get a security header score and copy ready code for the headers you are missing. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) enter the page URL you want to test; 2) click Check headers to fetch the page from our server; 3) review the security score, the notes and the full header list, then copy the fix snippets. Our server requests the URL once, like a normal browser without cookies, and records the status code, the response time and every header the server sends back. Headers control security, caching, compression and how search engines treat the page.

How the HTTP headers checker works

Our server requests the URL once, like a normal browser without cookies, and records the status code, the response time and every header the server sends back. Headers control security, caching, compression and how search engines treat the page.

Security score

Six important security headers are scored: Strict-Transport-Security (HSTS) and Content-Security-Policy are worth 20 points each, while X-Content-Type-Options, X-Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy are worth 15 each. The score is the share of points present, from 0 to 100, with a grade from A to F. For each missing header you get a plain English explanation and copy ready snippets for Apache, LiteSpeed and Nginx.

Other notes

  • Redirects and the Location header they point to.
  • Compression with gzip or Brotli.
  • Cache-Control rules.
  • X-Robots-Tag noindex, which can hide a page from Google.
  • Server and X-Powered-By headers that reveal software versions.

Limitations

The check runs from our server, so the response time includes network distance and may differ from what visitors see. Redirects are not followed, so test the final URL as well. The score checks that headers exist, and only lightly checks their values. Test any new Content-Security-Policy on a staging site first, since a strict policy can break scripts. This check needs an internet connection.

FAQ

HTTP Headers Checker FAQs

How do I check the HTTP headers of a website?

Enter the URL and click Check headers. The tool shows the status code, response time and every response header, such as content-type, cache-control and server. You can copy all headers as text or download them. Browser developer tools show the same data under the Network tab.

Which security headers should every website have?

Most sites should send Strict-Transport-Security, Content-Security-Policy, X-Content-Type-Options set to nosniff, X-Frame-Options or a frame-ancestors rule, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy. Together they protect visitors from downgrade attacks, clickjacking and script injection. They cost nothing and take only minutes to add on almost any host.

How do I add security headers in WordPress?

The simplest way is to add Header set lines to the .htaccess file on Apache or LiteSpeed hosting, or add_header lines to your Nginx config. This tool writes those snippets for the headers you are missing. Some security plugins and CDNs such as Cloudflare can add headers too.

Do HTTP headers affect SEO?

Some do directly. An X-Robots-Tag noindex header removes a page from Google, and wrong status codes or redirects change what gets indexed. Compression and caching headers make pages faster, which helps Core Web Vitals. Security headers are not a ranking factor, but HTTPS and visitor trust are.
