Image Enhancer: Make dull or dark photos look clean and sharp with simple sliders, one-click auto enhance and a before and after view, all in your browser. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) upload a photo, or click Auto enhance to start; 2) adjust the sliders and drag the before and after view; 3) choose the file type and download the enhanced photo. All processing happens in your browser on the pixels of your photo. The preview uses a smaller copy for speed, and the download runs the same steps at full size.
How the image enhancer works
All processing happens in your browser on the pixels of your photo. The preview uses a smaller copy for speed, and the download runs the same steps at full size.
The adjustments
- Auto levels: builds a histogram per colour channel, ignores the darkest and brightest 0.5 percent, and stretches the rest across the full range. This lifts dull photos and reduces colour casts.
- Brightness and contrast: applied with lookup tables using a standard contrast curve around mid grey.
- Saturation: moves each pixel towards or away from its grey value.
- Warmth: nudges red up and blue down, or the reverse.
- Reduce noise: blends in a light box blur to soften grain.
- Sharpen: an unsharp mask that adds back the difference between the photo and a blurred copy.
- Upscale 2x: doubles the size with high-quality smooth interpolation.
Limitations
It improves photos; it cannot add detail that is not there. Upscaling makes a photo larger and smoother but cannot recreate fine texture like AI upscalers claim to. Heavy sharpening also sharpens noise, so use it with care. Photos larger than 4000 pixels on the long side are processed at 4000 pixels.
Image Enhancer FAQs
Can this tool fix a blurry photo?
It can make slightly soft photos look crisper with the sharpen slider, but it cannot rescue a photo that is badly out of focus or full of motion blur. Sharpening increases edge contrast; it does not recover lost detail. For important images, retaking the photo is always the best fix.
What does auto levels do?
Auto levels finds the darkest and brightest parts of each colour channel and stretches them to use the full tonal range. Dull, foggy or slightly tinted photos look clearer and more natural. If a photo already has strong contrast, the change will be small, which is expected.
Does upscaling improve quality?
Upscaling doubles the pixel size using smooth interpolation, which helps when a platform needs a bigger file. It does not add real detail, so fine textures will look soft. Use it for modest enlargements and combine it with light sharpening for the best result.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is processed with JavaScript on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the enhanced file is created locally when you click download. You can even keep using the tool offline once the page has fully loaded.
