Discount Calculator: See what you really pay after a percent off or amount off, including extra discounts and tax, or work backwards to the original price. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) choose what you want to find; 2) enter the original price and the discount; 3) add an extra discount, tax and quantity if needed; 4) read the price you pay, your savings and the effective discount. The calculator has three modes and updates as you type.
How the discount calculator works
The calculator has three modes and updates as you type.
1. Sale price and savings
Enter the original price and a percent off or an amount off. You can add a second discount, such as an extra 10 percent at checkout, plus sales tax or VAT and a quantity.
Sale price = price x (1 - discount / 100) x (1 - extra / 100)Savings = original price - sale priceFinal = sale price x quantity x (1 + tax / 100)
Stacked discounts do not add up. 25 percent off plus an extra 10 percent is 32.5 percent off in total, not 35 percent, because the second discount is taken from the already reduced price.
2. Original price
If you know what you paid and the percent off, the tool works backwards: original = sale price / (1 - discount / 100). This is useful for checking whether a sale is as good as it claims.
3. Discount percentage
Enter the original and the sale price to find the percent off: (original - sale) / original x 100. Shop owners can use it to label sale items correctly.
Limitations
Tax is added after the discount, which is how most shops charge it. Some regions tax the full price for certain coupons, and prices that already include VAT need no extra tax. Results are rounded to two decimals for display. The tool runs in your browser and works offline.

How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the amount off. Subtract that from the original price to get the sale price. For example, 25 percent off 120 is 30 off, so you pay 90. The calculator does this instantly and also handles extra discounts and tax.
Is 20 percent off plus 10 percent off the same as 30 percent off?
No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price. 20 percent off 100 gives 80, then 10 percent off 80 gives 72. That is 28 percent off in total, not 30. Use the extra discount field to see the true combined discount for any pair of offers.
How do I find the original price before a discount?
Divide the sale price by one minus the discount as a decimal. If you paid 81 after 25 percent off, the original price was 81 divided by 0.75, which is 108. Choose the Original price mode and the calculator does this, including a second stacked discount.
Is sales tax calculated before or after the discount?
In most places sales tax or VAT is charged on the discounted price, so you also save tax when you get a discount. This calculator adds tax after the discount. If the shop price already includes VAT, leave the tax field empty.
