Online QR Code Scanner: Scan QR codes with your phone or laptop camera, or from a photo or screenshot. See exactly what is inside before you open it: links, WiFi passwords, contact cards, emails and more. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. How to use it: 1) tap "Start camera" and allow camera access, or choose "Scan from an image"; 2) hold the code inside the frame until it is read; 3) check the result, then open the link, copy the WiFi password or save the contact. The scanner reads video frames from your camera, or the image you choose, and looks for a QR code. On browsers that include the built-in BarcodeDetector, such as Chrome on Android, it uses that fast native reader, which also understands most retail barcodes.
How the QR code scanner works
The scanner reads video frames from your camera, or the image you choose, and looks for a QR code. On browsers that include the built-in BarcodeDetector, such as Chrome on Android, it uses that fast native reader, which also understands most retail barcodes. Other browsers use jsQR, an open source decoder bundled with this page. Everything happens on your device: no picture or result is uploaded.
Smart results
- Links show the domain first so you can spot fake addresses, with an Open button.
- WiFi codes show the network, security type and password with a copy button.
- Contact cards (vCard and MeCard) show each field and can be saved as a .vcf file.
- Email, SMS, phone and map codes get matching action buttons.
Scan history
Your last 30 scans are kept in this browser so you can find a link again later. You can delete single items or clear everything.
Limitations
Live camera scanning needs a secure page and camera permission. If the camera is blocked, use “Scan from an image”, which on most phones can open the camera too. Very small, blurry, curved or glossy codes may not read; move closer, add light and keep the code flat. Without the native detector, only QR codes are read, not one-dimensional barcodes. A QR code can contain any link, so treat unknown codes on posters and parking meters with care.
QR Code Scanner FAQs
Is it safe to scan QR codes online with this tool?
Yes. Decoding happens inside your browser and nothing is uploaded. The tool shows the content before anything opens, and for links it highlights the domain so you can check it. Scam codes often copy bank, parking or delivery brands, so only open links whose address you trust.
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or photo?
Yes. Tap “Scan from an image” and choose a screenshot, photo or saved image. The scanner tries several sizes to find the code. Crop out other codes if there are several in one image, and use a sharp, well lit picture for the best results.
How do I get the WiFi password from a QR code?
Scan the WiFi code with this tool. It shows the network name, the security type and the password in plain text, with a button to copy the password. You can then paste it into your laptop or another device that cannot scan codes itself.
Why is the camera not working?
The browser needs your permission and a secure https page. If you blocked access earlier, allow the camera in the site settings next to the address bar. Close other apps that use the camera, or switch to “Scan from an image”, which works on every device.
