How the marketing funnel planner works
A funnel shows how people move from first hearing about you to buying and buying again. The planner has two parts: a stage by stage plan and a funnel calculator.
Stage plan
Choose lead generation, e-commerce, local booking or B2B. You get four stages, top of funnel (TOFU), middle (MOFU), bottom (BOFU) and retention, each with a goal, channels, content, offers and KPIs suited to that funnel type.
Funnel maths
Leads = visitors x visitor to lead rateCustomers = leads x lead to customer rateRevenue = customers x average valueVisitors needed = target customers / (rate 1 x rate 2)
For 10,000 visitors, a 3 percent lead rate and a 20 percent close rate, you get 300 leads, 60 customers and, at 1,500 each, 90,000 in revenue.
What if table
The table shows the effect of a 20 percent improvement at each stage. Because stages multiply, improving all three by 20 percent lifts revenue by about 73 percent. That is why fixing a leaky middle of the funnel often beats buying more traffic.
Limitations
Default rates are examples only. Real conversion rates differ widely by industry, price, traffic source and country. Use your own analytics and CRM numbers where you can, and remember that real buyers do not always move through stages in a straight line.
Marketing Funnel Planner FAQs
What are the stages of a marketing funnel?
The common stages are awareness (top of funnel), consideration (middle), conversion (bottom) and retention or referral. Each stage has a different goal, so it needs different channels, content and KPIs. Many businesses focus only on the bottom stage and forget that retention and referrals often bring the cheapest new customers of all.
What is TOFU, MOFU and BOFU?
They stand for top, middle and bottom of the funnel. TOFU attracts new people, MOFU turns interest into leads by building trust, and BOFU turns leads into paying customers with offers, proof and easy buying steps. Retention follows after the sale.
How do I calculate funnel conversion rates?
Divide the number of people at one stage by the number at the stage before. For example, 300 leads from 10,000 visitors is a 3 percent visitor to lead rate. Multiply stage rates together to get the overall visitor to customer rate.
Which funnel stage should I improve first?
Improve the stage with the biggest drop compared with your past results or your expectations. Fixing the middle and bottom of the funnel usually costs less than buying more traffic and lifts results from every channel at once. Measure before and after each change.
