How the eBay title builder works

eBay titles can be up to 80 characters. The builder places your details in the order most buyers search and scan: brand, model or product line, item type, then size, colour, material, other keywords and condition. It adds each part only while the title still fits, uses short forms such as NWT or NIB when space is tight, and removes repeated words.

Several orders to choose from

You get up to six titles built from different patterns: brand first, item type early, department first for clothing, part number early for parts and tech, condition up front and keyword rich. Click Generate more for new combinations and a different keyword order.

Spam and policy check

The tool scans your inputs for words eBay discourages, such as L@@K and WOW, hype words, shipping claims, price promotions, symbols and emoji. These are left out of the titles. It also warns about words like not, like and inspired, because naming another brand that way breaks eBay’s search manipulation policy.

Item specifics

eBay search filters rely on item specifics. The tool detects your item type and lists the specifics buyers filter by, such as size type, MPN or metal purity, and shows which ones you already have.

Limitations

Titles are built from your inputs with fixed ordering rules. No search data is used, and we never estimate search volumes or sales. Check that every word is accurate. Rules were checked in November 2026, so confirm in your seller dashboard. Not affiliated with Etsy, Amazon, eBay or Walmart.

FAQ

eBay Title Builder FAQs

How many characters can an eBay title have?

An eBay listing title can be up to 80 characters, including spaces. Use the space for words buyers actually search for, such as brand, model, item type, size, colour and condition. Avoid filler words and symbols, which take up room without helping anyone find your item.

What is the best order for words in an eBay title?

A reliable order is brand, model or product line, item type, then key specifics such as size, colour and material, and finally condition when it matters, such as new with tags. Put the words buyers type first, so the most important details are seen on small screens.

What words should I avoid in eBay titles?

Avoid L@@K, WOW, hype words like amazing, shipping claims, price promotions, symbols and emoji. Never add other brand names with words like not, like or inspired, because eBay treats that as keyword spamming. Every word should describe the item you are actually selling.

Do item specifics help eBay search?

Yes. eBay uses item specifics for search filters and matching, so buyers who filter by size, brand or colour only see listings with those fields filled. Fill every specific that applies, using eBay’s suggested values where offered, even when the same detail is already in your title.
