About

About The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park

The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is an outdoor concert venue on San Diego Bay, set in Embarcadero Marina Park South in the Marina district of downtown San Diego. It opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 5, 2021 and is the outdoor home of the San Diego Symphony, which runs the venue on land leased from the Port of San Diego. Capacity reaches about 10,000, with temporary seating on a sloping artificial-turf lawn that stays open to the public on non-concert days. The covered stage measures 3,865 square feet. The London firm Soundforms designed the shell itself, Tucker Sadler Architects designed the venue, and Rudolph and Sletten built it. The project's budget grew to about $85 million, and more than 99 percent of the money came from private donations. It is named for donors Ernest and Evelyn Rady and Joan and Irwin Jacobs. Programs range from symphony concerts to pop shows, all with the bay as a backdrop.
