How the ad budget allocation calculator works

The calculator splits a monthly ad budget across up to six channels in one of two ways.

Priority weights

Each channel gets a share in proportion to its weight. A channel with a weight of 40 gets twice the budget of one with 20. This suits new advertisers without much data.

Performance allocation

If you know each channel’s cost per acquisition or ROAS, the tool gives more to the efficient ones. It scores each channel as 1 divided by CPA, or as ROAS, and shares the budget in proportion to those scores.

  • Share = score / sum of scores
  • Channel budget = share x total budget
  • Est. conversions = channel budget / CPA

Minimum and maximum limits then stop any channel getting everything. Channels that break a limit are fixed at it and the rest of the budget is shared again among the others.

Templates

Local service, e-commerce and B2B templates load example channel mixes. They are starting points only, not recommendations for your exact business.

Limitations

The estimates assume each channel keeps the same CPA or ROAS as spend grows. In practice extra spend usually performs a little worse than the first, which is why the limits matter. Move budget in gradual steps and check real results every month.

FAQ

Ad Budget Allocation Calculator FAQs

How should I split my advertising budget?

Start with the channels where your buyers already look, give most budget to high-intent channels such as search, and keep a small share for testing. Once you have reliable cost per acquisition or ROAS for each channel, shift budget towards the most efficient ones.

What is performance-based budget allocation?

It means giving more budget to channels that produce results more cheaply. This tool scores each channel by 1 divided by CPA, or by ROAS, then shares the budget in proportion, within the minimum and maximum limits you set. It works best with stable data.

Why set a minimum and maximum share per channel?

Returns usually fall as you push more money into one channel, and you still need data from other channels to keep learning. Limits stop one channel taking everything and protect you from relying on a single platform. They also keep testing budgets alive.

How often should I change my budget split?

Review it monthly. Move budget in steps of roughly 10 to 20 percent, because sudden large changes can reset automated bidding and make results harder to compare. Wait until each channel has enough conversions to judge fairly, and avoid changing the split during short seasonal spikes unless you planned for them.
