How the Pomodoro timer works

The Pomodoro Technique splits work into focus sessions, usually 25 minutes, separated by 5 minute short breaks. After four sessions you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. Short, timed sessions make it easier to start, reduce distractions and help you notice how long tasks really take.

Accurate timing

The timer stores the exact end time and compares it with the clock, instead of counting ticks. So it stays correct when you switch tabs, lock your phone or reload the page. The remaining time also shows in the browser tab title.

Features

  • Custom focus, short and long break lengths, and how many sessions before a long break.
  • Presets: 25/5, 50/10, 15/3 and 90/20.
  • Auto start for breaks and for the next focus session.
  • Alarm sounds made in the browser (bell, beep, digital, soft chime) with volume, plus optional notifications.
  • Link a session to a task name. Your to-do list tasks are suggested.
  • Stats: focus time today and this week, sessions against a daily goal, day streak and a 7 day chart. Export history as CSV.

Limitations

Phones may pause web pages in the background, so the alarm can sound when you return rather than exactly on time, although the recorded session is still correct. Sessions you stop early are saved only if they lasted at least one minute.

FAQ

Pomodoro Timer FAQs

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

It is a time management method created by Francesco Cirillo. You work on one task for a focused session, usually 25 minutes, then take a 5 minute break. After four sessions you take a longer break. Timed sessions help you start tasks, avoid distractions and keep steady energy through the day.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer saves the exact end time, so it stays accurate in background tabs and even after a reload. Some phones pause pages in the background, so the alarm may play when you come back, but your session time and stats stay correct.

Can I change the focus and break lengths?

Yes. Open Timer settings to set focus, short break and long break lengths in minutes, how many sessions come before a long break, and your daily goal. Presets such as 50/10 for deep work and 15/3 for quick tasks are one tap away.

Where is my focus history saved?

Sessions are saved on this device with the time, length and task name. Sign in to a free account to sync them to your other devices. You can export the full history as a CSV file or clear it at any time.
