How the daily journal works

Each day has one entry with your text, an optional mood from Awful to Great and optional tags. Your writing saves automatically a moment after you stop typing. The calendar shows which days have an entry, with a coloured dot for your mood, so patterns are easy to spot over a month.

Prompts

If you do not know what to write, tap a prompt and it is added to your entry. There are 24 reflection prompts, such as “What went well today?”, “What am I grateful for today?” and “What are my top 3 priorities for tomorrow?”. Tap “More prompts” for new ones.

Streaks, word count and search

  • Current streak: days in a row with an entry, counting today or yesterday.
  • Longest streak: your best run so far.
  • Word count and reading time for the entry you are writing, plus words written this month.
  • Search finds words or tags across every entry, and “On this day” shows the same date in past years.

Privacy

Entries are saved on your device and work offline. They sync to your account only when you are signed in. They are never shared, never read by our team and never used for anything else.

Limitations

  • The journal has no password lock, so anyone using your unlocked device and browser can read it.
  • The PDF export uses standard fonts, so emoji and non-Latin scripts such as Urdu may not show. Use Print to save a PDF from your browser instead.
  • One entry per day; each entry can hold up to 20,000 characters.
FAQ

Daily Journal FAQs

Is this online journal really private?

Yes. Your entries are stored on your own device and are not sent to us. If you sign in to a free account, they sync to that account so you can write on your phone and computer, but they are never shared, read by our team or used for anything else. For extra safety, lock your device.

How does the journal streak work?

Your current streak counts the days in a row that have an entry, ending today. If you have not written yet today, yesterday still counts, so you have the whole day to keep the streak alive. The longest streak shows your best run ever. Any entry with text or a mood counts.

Can I export my journal to PDF?

Yes. Choose this month, this year or all entries, then tap PDF to download a clean PDF with dates, moods and tags. If you write in Urdu, Arabic or use emoji, tap Print and choose “Save as PDF” instead, because your browser renders those characters correctly. TXT and JSON backups are also available.

What should I write in a daily journal?

Start small: one thing that went well, one thing you learned and how you feel. The built-in prompts help, for example “What am I grateful for today?” or “What would make tomorrow a great day?”. Two or three sentences a day is enough to build the habit and see patterns in your mood over time.
